The "enclosure" of Castagnole delle Lanze

The “enclosure”, as it is mentioned in historical texts, was the original nucleus of Castagnole delle Lanze that developed around the castle during the medieval period.
The highest part of the village was, in fact, enclosed by walls and towers.
Access to the “enclosure” area was controlled by two doors: the Porta di Santa Maria, where today we find the parish churchyard, and the Porta di San Martino, which stood towards the end of via Auberti.
The causes leading to the destruction of the castle and walls remain unknown.
